Pack

This series contains a detailed, step-by-step guide to create an outbound stock movement. In this section we will focus on the Pack page. In the previous stage, we confirmed the specific lot and bin location for the items on our shipment. Now we can provide pack details that will assist in the packing, shipping, and receiving of our stock movement.

Getting Started

OpenBoxes gives users the option to enter two pack levels into their shipment for each item. A pack level is a descriptor which can be used to help identify contents within a shipment. This information is useful when constructing a shipment at the origin location, and may also help the destination location efficiently identify and receive product on arrival.

This stage of the process also gives users an opportunity to see all of the critical information we’ve entered thus far: items codes and product names, bin locations, lots, expiry information, and quantities. We are now given two new fields (Pack Level 1 and Pack Level 2) where we can enter additional information.

Entering Pack Level Information

In this example, we are entering information to provide additional insight into the packing configuration of this stock movement. This information is user generated and can be used to describe pallets, boxes, or other information that is important to the composition of this shipment. I’ve decided to reference the pallet and box for each product in the stock movement.

Splitting a Line

OpenBoxes also gives users the opportunity to split lines for items that are going to be packed across multiple pack levels. Let’s assume the first product, item code 10003, will not completely fit into Box 1. Some of it will need to be packed into Box 2. Click on the green ‘Split Line’ button to proceed.

This brings us to a modal where we can split the quantity between multiple lines. Our current information will be populated in the first line. Select the green ‘Add Line’ button to enter additional pack information on a new line. The additional line will have the same lot/expiry/bin location information as the original line.

Let’s revise the quantity on the first line to 750. This is the part of the shipment that will go into box 1 on pallet 1. For the new line, let’s place the additional 250 units into box 2 on pallet 1. As we make these changes, we can see the Qty Packed will change on the left side of the page. This is an easy way to check and make sure all of the product is accounted for across the multiple lines. After we’ve made the desired changes, hit ‘Save’ to go back to the pack page.

Once we return to the pack page, we will see that item 10003 has now been split into two separate records based on pack level. It displays the quantities and packing configuration that we just introduced in the previous step.

Next

After entering all of the packing information for the different pack levels, click “Next” to go to the send page. We’ve now entered the majority of our stock movement information and we are ready for the final step in the process.
