Enabling Lot and Expiry Control

OpenBoxes includes a feature that requires lot and expiration information to be entered for select products.

This feature is very helpful for inventory management, particularly for items where lot and expiry information is critical such as drugs or perishable products. Once this feature is enabled for a particular product, transactions such as inbound shipments, receipts, and inventory adjustments will require users to enter lot and expiry information before they can proceed.

This page is focused on enabling the lot and expiry control feature for an item in OpenBoxes. For additional information on the feature, including some examples of validation, please see https://openboxes.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/resumedraft.action?draftId=1736507393.

This setting is global and managed at the product level. Therefore, if a user enables lot and expiry control for a particular product, it will apply to all locations in OpenBoxes.

To locate the lot and expiry control setting, go to the stock card and click on the ‘Edit Product’ button. Alternatively, selecting ‘Edit Product Details’ from the drop down in the action items menu on the left will also take us there. Both options are shown below.

This will bring us directly into the ‘Details’ tab on the product page for this item.

From here, we scroll down until we get to Inventory Control. To enable the feature, check the box next to ‘Lot and Expiry Control.’ Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page in order to save the change. We’ve now activated the lot and expiry control requirement for item 10003 at all locations in OpenBoxes.

To turn this feature off, navigate back to the lot and expiry control section following the path above, and uncheck the box. Remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page and save your changes.
